Bennett and his sisters

As many of you saw on facebook, my new nephew, Bennett, was born just over two weeks ago. Bennett is big news as he is the first boy in our family – on both sides! He most certainly has the famous Gerhard brow (and I am told his ski jump nose comes from his aunt Kelsey). At 9 lb 12 oz, he doesn’t look much like a tiny, stringy newborn, but he is only a week old in these photos. A gorgeous little old man butterball!

Our September… 365-ish (with a big emphasis on the “ish”)

Last month I fell off of the 365 wagon… hard. With the start of school and numerous kid activities, a back to school cold/ear infection, plus the start of the busiest time of year for my business I just became overwhelmed. I was happy to see when I looked back this morning, however, that I had taken a few great shots at the beginning of the month and the end of the month, and they (I think) are worth a share. I just wish I had a bit more from the middle. ;) So here are twelve for September…

The last days of the pool.

Heat and cabin fever.

Bedtime with her sleep posse.

Proud artist at work.

Cleo Valentine. 70 lbs of pure puppy.

Night swimming, and diving, until the lifeguards kicked us out on Memorial Day.

The start of a Virginia fall.

School camping trip s’more making.

Posing not far from the Appalachian trail.

Happy first day of October. I hope it didn’t sneak up on you as fast as it did on me. xo

Morning with Mallory – Ashburn, VA, Newborn, baby photographer

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of photographing a simple session at home with sweet baby Mallory. Not so new anymore, Mallory is all personality, eyes, and peachy chubby rolls. A true and beautiful living doll. As you can see, her father is a volunteer firefighter and she is adored by all (including her big sister Jolene).

With this post I would love to share something. Mallory’s mother was given a photo session as a gift for her new baby. We scheduled it around the time Mallory was 4 months old, and starting to smile. She may not have been completely a newborn. She didn’t sleep through her session and didn’t need to be swaddled up tight. And that was OK, in fact it was more than OK! Do not think that if you didn’t get newborn photographs of your little one it is too late. Every stage is of a baby’s growth is special, and they change every. single. day. Every detail, at any stage of life deserves to be documented. Every wrinkle, skin fold, and drop of baby drool deserves to be cherished, because I promise you, it won’t be there forever. :)
